Hermes is the open source LLM family and agent runtime from Nous Research. Hermes 4 ships under MIT and is one of the very few open weights families specifically trained for production grade function calling, structured output and multi turn tool use. Hermes Agent, released in early 2026, wraps the model with persistent memory, autonomous skill creation and local inference through Ollama, vLLM or llama.cpp. The whole stack runs on your own hardware, with full data sovereignty.

For a small but loud crowd of developers, founders and indie builders, that combination is the entire bet. Closed model APIs are convenient but they leak context, charge per token and gate the agent loop behind their own roadmap. Hermes flips the model: your weights, your GPU, your skill library. The only piece that becomes a bottleneck is the CRM that the agent is meant to operate on top of.
